Botswana is in the southern part of Africa. The Kalahari Desert covers 80% of the country and is prone to severe droughts. Life expectancy is 53 years. AIDS has devastated the country, having the world’s second-highest prevalence of AIDS after Swaziland. There were many gospel missionaries of the past, but tribal culture remains strong. Pray for the missionaries and churches that are there. They are not forgotten. Pray they may reach the people with the message of love and hope in Jesus Christ, who also died for them.

Settlements have been in Bosnia from a very early time. Christianity arrived in the first century AD. Later during the Turkish occupation, many became Muslim. The first World War started in Bosnia when a Bosnian Serb nationalist assassinated Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in the capital city of Sarajevo. In the second World War, hundreds of thousands were exterminated by Nazi collaborators. Bolivia is only one of two landlocked countries in the Americas. It is on the southwest side of Brazil. Once it was South America’s richest area, but corrupt governments and the fall of silver prices have made it one of the poorest. They gained their independence from Spain in 1825 but have had 200 coups and revolutions since then. Most of the economy is agriculture but about 70% illegally grow the coca plant used in cocaine. Bhutan is a small kingdom in the eastern Himalaya Mountains above India. The state religion is Buddhism. Other religions are barely tolerated. Proselytism is illegal, church buildings are not allowed, and Christians do not receive state benefits available to Buddhist, such as free education. It is one of the least evangelized nations. The New Testament has been translated into Dzongha, the national language, but the majority of indigenous languages have no Bible Scriptures. There is shortwave radio as media, but that is about it.
