For today’s running CD, I needed something with a little vigor for a rainy Winter’s Monday.  This is from a little-known obscure group called Travis: The Invisible Band, and a song called “Sing” from 2001.  I first heard this song from the outdoor speakers of the ski slopes in Steamboat Springs, CO.  The rush of skiing down the mountain, snow blowing in your face, and being up close to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world will make you want to… well, sing!  I didn’t include the video with this song because it’s better to listen to it with […]
As I continue my running journey through the last 20 years of my CD collection, today’s selection is a much more personal one.  It is Elton John’s Made In England from 1995, specifically the last track called “Blessed”.  I used to sing this song to my child while waiting for him to be born.  The doctors had said I might not be able to have children; but I knew that God, the Creator of all Life, could give me a baby if He wanted.  And He did.  Happy 17th Birthday John McCusker.  You are blessed.
During the holidays I copied my entire CD collection spanning the last 20 years to my MP3 player that I use when running.  I plan to run my way through all the CD’s this year. Nothing beckons memories and feelings more than music from the past, and it helps me to pass the miles.  Some of my past musical selections make me want to say, “What was I thinking?!”, but mostly it’s been a cleansing experience so far.  In no particular order, I started with Dido’s Life for Rent from 2003. The whole album is great!
