Croatia is surrounded by Bosnia, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and the Adriatic Sea. They are still recovering from Communist regime, wars between Serbs and Croatians, and have high unemployment, low wages, and high debt. Income is about $15,000 per person. Catholicism is the unofficial religion and many leaders in the Catholic Church are at the forefront of reconciliation and justice. They have a higher percentage of Catholics attending mass than other European countries. Pray that the Catholic Church and all Christian churches in the area are able to reach out to the people and provide the assistance they need.

Settlements have been in Bosnia from a very early time. Christianity arrived in the first century AD. Later during the Turkish occupation, many became Muslim. The first World War started in Bosnia when a Bosnian Serb nationalist assassinated Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in the capital city of Sarajevo. Most recently there was the three-sided war between Serbians, Croatians, and Bosnians in 1995, with no real winner and a nation torn and divided. Bosnia has a deep and long history. Pray for the people of Bosnia, that their […]

I am also a little partial to Antwerp Belgium diamonds, the so-called diamond capital of the world. But there are many differences between Belgium and the United States. Religion is largely irrelevant for Belgians. Most don’t even think about God. Over 30% are non-religious or atheist. The Catholic church is in […]

Austria in Europe is surround by Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. It is 91% Germanic. A beautiful country of culture, music, and art, they have given us many contributions to the world – Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Strauss and many more. Austria is considered more religious than most European countries, but they too are struggling with sharp church declines. Young people seemed to be more open to the gospel here than in previous generations, but the churches are poorly equipped for youth ministry. Pray for resources, people, and the right tools for the churches in Austria. We […]
