Day 22 – Names of Jesus. Mary and Joseph traveled about 70-90 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem through mountainous terrain. It would have taken about 8-10 days to complete the journey, while carrying all of their food, water, blankets and supplies. Day 21 – Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem. Luke 2:4-5 Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. Mary and Joseph were both descendants of King David. Joseph was from the line of David’s son, King Solomon, and a legal heir to the throne. Day 20 – Caesar sends a decree. Luke 2:1-3 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town. Caesar Augustus (Octavius) was heir to Julius Caesar, who died in 44 BC. Octavius defeated Marc Antony in the famous Roman battle in 30 BC and became Rome’s first emperor.
