Immanuel means “God with us”. It is one of the most comforting names for Jesus. During those times when we’re in despair and cry out to God, we want to know God is with us. To know He has not abandoned us in our most desperate need. When we are scared; when we don’t know what to do or where to turn; we want to know God is with us. Christ is a title, and it means Anointed or Chosen One. The word Christ is the Greek (or New Testament) equivalent of the Hebrew (Old Testament) word for Messiah. The name Jesus is the human name given to Mary by the angel Gabriel (Luke 1:31). The full name of Jesus Christ is Jesus the Anointed One or Jesus the Messiah. In the book of Revelation, Jesus reveals himself to the Apostle John as the “Bright Morning Star”. “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to attest these things to you for the churches.
